AI Nexus for Black Innovators (AINBI) works to increase the participation and leadership of Black communities in artificial intelligence, technology, innovation and public policy.

We want to ensure that Black communities have a meaningful voice in decisions about AI, digital systems, employment, education and the future of work.

About the Role

AINBI is looking for a curious and motivated Volunteer Junior Policy Analyst to support our research and advocacy work on artificial intelligence and Black communities in Canada.

This is an entry-level opportunity for a student, recent graduate, early-career professional or community member who wants to gain practical experience in AI policy, research, advocacy and public engagement.

You do not need to be an AI expert. Training, guidance and support will be provided. We are looking for someone who is willing to learn, conduct research, ask thoughtful questions and contribute new ideas.

What You Will Do

In this role, you will:

• Research current Canadian policies related to artificial intelligence.
• Follow news, government announcements and consultations about AI.
• Explore how AI may affect Black communities in Canada.
• Help identify concerns related to bias, discrimination, privacy, employment and access to technology.
• Prepare short research summaries, briefing notes and policy updates.
• Help draft letters, consultation responses and policy submissions.
• Support AINBI’s advocacy work on responsible and inclusive AI.
• Help plan webinars, roundtables and public education events.
• Research potential speakers, partners and webinar topics.
• Prepare discussion questions and event notes.
• Attend virtual team meetings and contribute ideas.
• Help explain complex AI and policy topics in clear, simple language.

• An interest in AI, public policy and Black communities
• Good research and writing skills
• Strong communication skills
• The ability to summarize information clearly
• Curiosity and a willingness to learn
• Strong organization and time-management skills
• The ability to work independently in a remote environment
• Respect for different perspectives and lived experiences
• An understanding of, or interest in learning about, anti-Black racism and systemic barriers in Canada

Previous policy experience is not required.

Experience writing school papers, research assignments, community reports, articles or briefing notes is an asset.

Time Commitment

The volunteer will contribute approximately 5–7 hours per week for six months.

The position is fully remote and offers flexible working hours. Some virtual meetings, webinars or consultations may take place during regular business hours.
