About AINBI

AI Nexus for Black Innovators (AINBI) advances the leadership, participation, and visibility of Black communities in artificial intelligence, innovation, technology, and public policy.

Position Overview

AINBI is seeking an experienced and strategic Volunteer Communications Director to lead the organization’s communications, media relations, digital presence, and public engagement.

The Communications Director will work closely with AINBI leadership to strengthen the organization’s public profile, promote its programs and policy work, and ensure clear and consistent messaging across all platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead AINBI’s communications strategy.
  • Oversee social media, website, newsletters, media relations, and public announcements.
  • Develop key messages, media releases, statements, speaking notes, and promotional materials.
  • Lead communications for webinars, events, research, advocacy campaigns, and partnerships.
  • Identify media, speaking, partnership, and public-engagement opportunities.
  • Maintain consistent organizational messaging, branding, and tone.
  • Coordinate communications volunteers and content contributors.
  • Advise AINBI leadership on public messaging and reputation management.
  • Monitor communications performance and provide regular updates.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in communications, public relations, media, marketing, or journalism.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and strategic communication skills.
  • Experience developing communications plans and managing digital platforms.
  • Strong leadership, organization, and project-management skills.
  • The ability to work independently and collaborate with a remote team.
  • An interest in artificial intelligence, innovation, public policy, and Black community advancement.

Experience working with a nonprofit, public institution, technology organization, or community-based initiative is an asset.
