Talking Cafés are informal, drop-in gatherings that offer older adults a friendly space to connect, share stories, and enjoy meaningful conversation. Each Café is supported by a volunteer facilitator who gently guides the discussion and helps create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment. Facilitators help create warm, welcoming spaces where older adults can connect, share stories, and enjoy meaningful conversations. Volunteers gently guide discussions, foster an inclusive environment, and help reduce social isolation.Your responsibilities include greeting participants, creating a safe and inclusive environment, encouraging but never pressuring participation, and gently guiding discussions with open-ended questions when needed. Before each session, you arrive early to set up the space and refreshments, and during the Café you foster a friendly, respectful atmosphere where everyone feels heard. 

Join our H'art Studio program and work alongside artist participants with intellectual or developmental disabilities and community artist instructors to support inclusive arts workshops in visual arts, theatre, dance, music, storytelling and more. Volunteers will gain hands on experience and contribute to a supportive creative community.Volunteers are asked to commit about half a day per week for six months. This helps ensure a consistent and rewarding experience for everyone.Getting StartedTo join us as a volunteer, you’ll need to: Complete a short volunteer application you can find at www.hartcentre.ca/volunteer Arrange a brief visit and interview with our team Complete a standard Criminal Background Check (CPIC), which can be done online Take part in our introductory MixAbilities Inclusive Arts Training (the first four modules) We’ll guide you through each part of the process and are happy to answer any questions along the way.Volunteers: Assist community arts instructors during workshops Support and encourage artist-participants in activities Help set up and clean up workshop spaces Contribute to creating a welcoming, positive, inclusive environmentWhat Will You Gain: Introduction to inclusive arts through the first modules of our MixAbilities Inclusive Arts Training program. Literacy Link Eastern Ontario is seeking volunteers who are passionate about literacy and community service to join us as members of our Board of Directors to help us achieve our mission of empowering literacy service providers and learners in Eastern Ontario. We are a small but mighty organization with a vision that adult literacy service providers have access to excellent education and skill development tools that will support student learners in achieving their goals. We develop connections, communications, resources and collaborations to support adult literacy and adult learning opportunities.Joining our Board of Directors offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of our organization and the adult education system in Ontario. You will be able to share your knowledge, experience and expertise or develop valuable leadership skills and experience working in a provincially funded nonprofit charity.
