The Rideau Trail Association (RTA) is a charitable, volunteer-run organization with two main roles:
First, it coordinates and promotes self-propelled activities such as hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and other outdoor activities. Hikes and other activities are led by certified and experienced hike leaders. Hikes are suitable for beginner, intermediate and advanced hikers.
Second, it stewards over 40 trails that span over 450 km. The main trail, known as the Rideau Trail, is roughly 325 km in length, and goes between downtown Kingston and downtown Ottawa.

To promote, encourage and conduct responsible hiking and similar self-propelled activities while stewarding the Rideau Trail network.

The RTA has three Clubs that conduct led hikes and other activities throughout the year. Clubs are located in Kingston, Central (Perth area), and Ottawa.
Zero Food Waste is a Canadian nonprofit dedicated to promoting sustainability and reducing food waste in our community. Our mission isto create a more resilient and environmentally conscious Kingston by connecting local food businesses, residents, and organizations to minimize waste and maximize resources. Kingston food recovery efforts involve collecting surplus food from local businesses and redistributing it to those in need, ensuring that no food goes to waste.
We are currently looking for volunteer drivers with a license to go on "food delivery runs" from local Kingston restaurants to assigned charities. (Distances are max 1 hour)

Cycle Kingston, Inc., is a registered Canadian charitable organization and incorporated non-profit whose mandate is to provide safe cycling education and cycling skills training in Kingston, Ontario, so that citizens will gain competence and confidence, and will become empowered to choose cycling as a personal means of transportation.
Cycling offers many benefits: health, well-being, environmental, economic, social, and more.
Cycle Kingston works with many community partners to offer a broad variety of safe cycling initiatives, from in-class presentations at local schools, to coordinating the annual Cycling Week festival, to offering individual and small group cycling lessons, to outreach to community service groups and businesses...and so much more.
Cycle Kingston is governed by a volunteer board of directors, selected based on their areas of expertise and commitment. We hire summer students each year who serve as Cycling Ambassadors and lead the delivery of our many spring and summer programs, while role modeling safe cycling behaviour.
The Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) is a nature club and charitable organization, active since 1949. Its objectives are the preservation of wildlife and natural habitats, and the stimulation of people’s interest in nature.
The Club membership has a diversity of interests in nature, so a variety of activities take place year-round. Bird watching trips, nature rambles, wildflower walks and other field trips are led by knowledgeable individuals from both within and outside the Club. Each May the public is invited to join a series of bird walks.
Monthly meetings are normally open to both members and the public. They feature guest speakers including naturalists, scientists, conservationists and photographers who speak on a wide range of subjects. Meetings are currently in-person with an option to join via video conference.
Members regularly participate in hands-on conservation projects such as habitat stewardship and wildlife surveys.

We help our clients stay healthy, live well and remain active. We support those in frail and failing health and we contribute to the health and improved quality of life of Canadians in their homes and communities, where they want to be.
The "Friends of the Penitentiary Museum Inc." (FPM) was formed in the late 1990s. Its job: to assist with the development and operation of the only museum in Canada dedicated solely to the presentation and interpretation of the history of Canada's federal penitentiaries. The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) realized that the museum, originally established at the Correctional Staff College (Ontario) in 1967, provided a very positive link with the community at the local as well as national and international levels. To ensure the museum's continuing operation in a climate of tightening budgets, something had to be done.
Kingston Health Sciences Centre is southeastern Ontario’s complex, acute and specialty care, research and teaching hospital. We care for more than 500,000 patients and their families from across our region.
Volunteers are active at our Hotel Dieu site, Kingston General site, the Cancer Centre of SE Ontario, the Detoxification Centre and the Eating Disorders Clinic.
We actively pursue community solutions which aim to end homelessness, in partnership with people with lived experience.
The goal of a community land trust is to acquire property, and provide affordable housing for the community in which they are established. We do that by pooling, grants, donations, and private loans to buy residential buildings at market value and hold them in a trust for the long term benefit of the community.
The long term community benefit is secured through land lease agreements and democratic governance of the Land Trust as a non-profit. Think of it like a co-op for the entire City of Kingston. A co-op that you are entitled to membership in by virtue of being someone who lives, or works in the City of Kingston. Members vote on the election of board members, acquisitions, allocation of funds, and the initiation of community projects.
The community land trust model is flexible meaning that we can mold it to bring the largest benefit to the Kingston community. Whether we want to provide affordable high-quality rentals to the students and low income residents of the City, or open up new avenues to homeownership in the City the community land trust model has been proven to reduce the cost of housing in the areas they operate in.

The Canadian Frailty Network (CFN) is Canada’s sole network devoted to changing behaviours that help slow down, avoid or mitigate the risks of frailty in older adults. It also improves care for older Canadians living with frailty by supporting their families and caregivers.
