Situated on the shores of Lake Ontario, the award-winning Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts brings together exceptional arts spaces and programs with a captivating sense of place to create a dynamic venue for Queenās students and the community. In addition to the Performance Hall, the other spaces in the 90,000 square foot venue include a studio theatre, a film screening room and a music rehearsal hall. Embracing the principles of inclusion, interactivity, and integration, the School of Drama and Music and the Department of Film and Media share teaching and performance spaces within the Isabel. The Isabel was designed by Oslo/New York-based firm SnĆøhetta and Ottawaās N45, with acoustics and theatre design by ARUP and Theatre Projects Consultants.
Anchored by a transformational gift to the Initiative Campaign from Drs. Alfred and Isabel Bader, the Isabel was inspired by the Baderās love ā of the arts, of Queenās, and of each other ā and is named in Isabelās honour.
JANEO is a regional division of Junior Achievement based out of Peterborough. We encompass the entire North and East Ontario regions offering our programs and educational opportunities to local schools and businesses. JA-NEO inspires and prepares youth to succeed by providing them with opportunities to learn financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and work readiness skills with engaging programs delivered by our network of dedicated volunteers. Our organization runs a number of events and In-Class presentations to help local students develop positive relationships with finances and savings, discover career paths and training opportunities, and prepare to enter the workforce.
Jobwell (previously VOCEC) exists to create meaningful job opportunities for people living with persistent mental illness and is seeking Volunteer Board Members to help support its continued success and growth.
To achieve its mission, Jobwell operates a series of small businesses including cafes, commercial cleaning, and assembly. Together, these ventures employ 100 people living with mental illness. As an award-winning not-for-profit, all earnings are reinvested to create more jobs in Kingston.
We have weathered the pandemic and are on a mission to grow. Volunteering as a Board Member is a meaningful way to contribute to a thriving and vibrant Kingston community.
Board Member Contributions:
- Volunteer 2-3 hours per month
- Provide Operational Guidance
- Suggest and approve ideas for new and existing businesses
- Review Financial Statements and approve allocation of funds

Who We Are
Foundations: Then and Now
- Then: KIMRI was formed by a young black Muslim and an older white Christian. When their academic backgrounds and experience converged, they had many discussions around racism in Kingston. At this intersection of their lives, they concluded that a more expansive approach would be more effective in resolving long standing social problems, since existing initiatives tended to focus on particular groups and a holistic take would engage the whole community.
- Now: Kingston Institute for Multi-Racial Inclusion (KIMRI) is an incorporated non-profit social enterprise. Through substantive conversation, we address deep seated challenges related to equity, diversity, inclusion and Indigenization (EDII.) A dedicated board of directors collaborates with various laudable initiatives to create meaningful change.

King's Town School is looking for judges for our school Heritage Fair. Students benefit greatly from hearing feedback on their projects. King's Town School Heritage fair will be taking place Thursday, May 5th from 12:45-3:15pm. Founded in 2010, Kingston Animal Rescue is a no-kill animal rescue group.Ā We rescue and find forever homes for animals in need.Ā We are a registered charity. (83024 4802 RR0001).
Using a network of foster homes, we take in last chance animals - animals that are at high risk of euthanasia or those that would otherwise be at risk without our help. This includes animals at shelters and stray animals. We also assist in emergency rescues, including small animals removed from neglectful situations.
As a no-kill rescue, our animals stay in foster homes until they are adopted. We work to educate the public about the proper care and treatment of animals as well as the pet overpopulation crisis and the importance of spaying/neutering and adoption.
Tetra Society is a non-profit organization of dedicated volunteers who create custom assistive devices for people with disabilities to provide better quality of life and greater independence.
The Kingston Coalition for Active Transportation (KCAT) was established in April 2008 and has since worked to facilitate the increase of active transportation in Kingston. KCAT works with various stakeholders in the city to enhance opportunities and move forward policy that encourage active transportation.

The goal of a community land trust is to acquire property, and provide affordable housing for the community in which they are established. We do that by pooling, grants, donations, and private loans to buy residential buildings at market value and hold them in a trust for the long term benefit of the community.
The long term community benefit is secured through land lease agreements and democratic governance of the Land Trust as a non-profit. Think of it like a co-op for the entire City of Kingston. A co-op that you are entitled to membership in by virtue of being someone who lives, or works in the City of Kingston. Members vote on the election of board members, acquisitions, allocation of funds, and the initiation of community projects.
The community land trust model is flexible meaning that we can mold it to bring the largest benefit to the Kingston community. Whether we want to provide affordable high-quality rentals to the students and low income residents of the City, or open up new avenues to homeownership in the City the community land trust model has been proven to reduce the cost of housing in the areas they operate in.

Local volunteer led group raising funds for local mental health services and programs, organized through Mood Disorders Canada.
The Kingston Fall Fair is hosted by the Kingston & District Agricultural Society for over 200 years, making it one of Kingston's longest running events! The fair takes place September 17 - 20 at the Kingston Memorial Centre, 303 York Street. This event includes livestock and heritage skills competitions, 4-H achievement days, horse shows, the Country Singing Showdown, a huge midway, demolition derbies, monster trucks and more. We appreciate all the help we can get to make this a memorable event for more than 25,000 people who attend each year. We strive to offer a fun and educational experience for the whole family, to help connect urban and rural residents, and increase awareness of agriculture in our region.
TheĀ Kingston Field NaturalistsĀ (KFN) is a nature club and charitable organization, active since 1949. Its objectives are the preservation of wildlife and natural habitats, and the stimulation of peopleās interest in nature.
The Club membership has a diversity of interests in nature, so a variety of activities take place year-round. Bird watching trips, nature rambles, wildflower walks and other field trips are led by knowledgeable individuals from both within and outside the Club. Each May the public is invited to join a series of bird walks.
Monthly meetings are normally open to both membersĀ and the public. They feature guest speakers including naturalists, scientists, conservationists and photographers who speak on a wide range of subjects. Meetings are currently in-person with an option to join via video conference.
Members regularly participate in hands-on conservation projects such as habitat stewardship and wildlife surveys.
