Board of Directors (Volunteer) at Sexual Assault Centre Kingston

We are seeking a candidate to join our Board of Directors!

The Sexual Assault Centre Kingston is a feminist organization providing emergency, crisis, short term and long-term supportive counselling, information, referral and advocacy for survivors of sexual violence, as well as public education and advocacy about sexual violence. We are actively working to diversify our staff and Board in order to best serve all survivors. The organization and Board are committed to hiring using a feminist, anti-racist, anti-colonial, and anti-oppressing ideology to this and all future hiring. This is an important part of our mission, and we are committed to expanding our knowledge of, and working towards, decolonization, Indigenization, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Director will bring a feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppression ideology to the following roles and responsibilities:

• Establishing the vision, goals, and priorities of the Centre

• Overseeing the organization and management of the Centre

• Monitor the organization’s financial health and flag financial risks to the Board

• Hiring and overseeing the work of an Executive Director to manage the operation of the Centre

• Determining Strategy and plan for future vision of the Centre

• Approving annual budgets

• Monitoring and assessing the Centre's fundraising practices, policies

• Preparing for, attending, and participating in the Board Meetings (held virtually at 6:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month, excluding July and December) and serve on committees as required

• Meet all legal and fiduciary responsibilities

Qualifications:

• Background in financial management or human resources

• Experience reviewing financial statements and cash flow reports

• Passion for feminist issues, and adherence to centre's mission and values

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability of working with diverse teams

• Strategic, resourceful, diplomatic, culturally sensitive, knack for conflict resolution & mediation

• Strong ethical values

• Commitment to govern through an anti racist/anti oppression lens

Assets:

• Proficiency in additional language(s)

• Knowledge of services and resources in the organization’s service area

• Experience in legal, human resources or feminist activism

• Previous board experience is as asset but not required

• Residency within Ontario

• Change maker

This is a volunteer position with financial responsibilities and an expected time commitment of roughly 2 to 5 hours per month.
